HOW TO ORIENT YOURSELF IN THE WORLD OF “DIGITAL” COLOR TRENDS

color trend fiere digitali save the date

About a year has passed since the pandemic exploded and the world of trade fairs has had to adapt. In the space of a few months, exhibitions have transformed from physical spaces for meeting and discussing the latest developments in each field to virtual events.

In some way we must necessarily orient ourselves in the world of digital color trends

Personally, I believe that every trade fair remains essential from a professional and human point of view. When the situation gets back under control, I’m sure we’ll rediscover the importance of physically attending the various trade fairs.

The world of trends certainly doesn’t stop, you can savor the unpredictability of this universe as fascinating as it is pleasantly risky. A couple of years ago we didn’t expect such a devastating pandemic but the feeling of having to make big changes in the fashion system and beyond, has already been around for some time. Sustainability, Re-use, Circularity, are constant elements that will accompany us in current and future scenarios.

What’s happening in the world of trends?

The first difficulty you encounter is to face the world of trends in a completely or almost digital way. Specifically when we talk about colors, the problem becomes more evident: from the bright colors displayed on the monitors of our PCs and mobile devices, we must then move on to tangible and concrete colors. I assure you that sometimes disappointment is just around the corner: thinking, imagining, visualizing colors on screen and then clashing with the reality of real, physical, material colors.

Often the “physical” color is accompanied by the digital color, I myself use the digital color identified by the most appropriate coding according to the design needs. However, there is a fundamental variable which is the material, the basic support of our color: according to the type of fabric or accessory, there will be a different rendering of the same selected color.

At present, therefore, we can observe colors virtually. If these will be accompanied by a universally recognized coding, we will have a more precise idea of the colors that will be trendy for the future.

What we will miss at the moment is the tangible experience of color expressed in the various types of fabrics and materials that we usually see during a fair.

As much as videos and images will be able to tell the new colors, we will miss the “touch” of color and materials.

How are fabric and color trend fairs being organized?

Sit comfortably and set the dates on your agenda, the more experienced will already know that the main fairs will all be digital. Some fair started last semester, in total uncertainty. A few months have passed and just like fashion shows, fairs are also digitally oriented. Here are some digital appointments not to be missed on the colors, fabrics and accessories trends of the coming seasons:

  • February 2 , MilanoUnica S/S 2022
  • February 8 – April 5,PITTI IMMAGINE FILATI
  • February 15-19, Première Vision Paris S/S 2022
  • May 19-20, Performance Days Munich. Update F/W 22-23 and Kickoff S/S 2023

For each of these events that you will need to register for, there is a section dedicated to the Market Place. It is the virtual place of first contact with companies in the sector. The wealth of information on materials and fabrics depends on the individual companies from which a catalog and any fabric samples can generally be requested.

There will be several talks during the trade fairs which can be accessed online and there will certainly be much more to discover.

Many people believe that to produce in a sustainable way it will be necessary to slow down and offer more durable and quality products.

If we transferred the same concept to the world of colors, what would this mean?

Let’s abandon the idea of living seasons in which to dress mainly with classic colors such as white, black, gray, blue or brown … So YES to durable and quality products but not necessarily conformed in neutral classic colors.

In this period of great difficulty we are surrounding ourselves with colors and perhaps we will pay even more attention to the trends of the moment. My advice is to tune in to events, digital colors and at the same time rely on a color consultant.
